Jenni and Vincent had decided to
spend the day studying Shakespeare in the library of Vincent's newly
built chambers. Jenni had just finished reading a passage from "Romeo
and Juliet" when she turned towards Vincent and asked, "So what's one
of your favorite quotes from Shakespeare?"
"That's difficult but one of my most
loved has always been 'The quality
of mercy is not strain'd, it droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
upon the place beneath," Vincent answered after some consideration.
"Yes, that's a good one," Jenni
answered, "I've always favored 'Now
cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince: and flights of angels
sing thee to thy rest!' myself. I suppose it is somewhat sad but it's
often reminded me of the heroes in my life. Like you, actually."
Vincent looked at Jenni curiously,
wondering why such a dark passage
should remind her of him.
"Oh! Well, don't worry. It's not like
I'm a prophet, like Elijah, or
anything. It's just so very....regal sounding is all."
"Ah so here you are! Prophets and
princes! There's no telling what you
two will discuss next!" Andrew said as he walked into the room.
"Anyway, what do you say to leaving your sonnets and odes alone for a
bit to go for a walk. Spring's come you know!"
"Sounds great! Let's go! Just let me
go get my purse, in case we stop
by a store or anything." Jenni answered.
"I should probably be going back to
New York. The children are
preparing a concert and I sense Jacob is a bit on edge. It will be the
first time he plays the piano before the entire community." Vincent
replied.
"Oh, okay then! Well, tell him good
luck for me then, please!" Jenni
said as she and Andrew proceeded towards the stairs and to the castle
above.
"Last call for anyone going on our first nature walk of the spring!"
Andrew called as he stood by the main door waiting for Audrey and
Jenni. Jenni came rushing into the hallway looking behind potted plants
and in cabinets. "I can't find my purse anywhere!"
"Seek and ye shall find!" Audrey said
as she walked into the room from
the ballroom and handed Jenni her purse. "It was on the couch."
"Ugh, right. I had it by me when I was writing the letters to Adam and
Henry about our current events."
"Okay, now that everyone's settled
let's go spend some quality time
with our God and country." Andrew said as he opened the door and
followed Audrey and Jenni out into the sunshine.
"Oh! Look at that bird over there! The feathers on it are so
brilliant!" Audrey exclaimed as she, Jenni, and Andrew entered the
Whispering Woodlands.
They watched as the bird flew from
tree to tree until only a few feet
away on the ground rushed a small squirrel.
"Oh! He's so adorable!" Jenni said
admiringly.
"Thank you!" answered the small
squirrel as it dashed up a nearby tree.
As the two girls and the angel of
death proceeded into the Woods they
began to hear the sounds of music and a party. They followed the noise
to a nearby clearing and upon entering found animals ranging from lions
to unicorns to bears to cats to flamingoes. In one end of the glen
several bears were playing hearts, in another a robin was serenading a
diverse audience with "Beautiful Dreamer." A small frog was the first
to notice the visitors and hopped towards them.
"Hello!" he said.
"Well, hello there Jeremiah!" Andrew
answered as the girls smiled.
"Andrew, princesses. We're glad to have you here for a visit! We were just celebrating the Restoration of Spring!" Jeremiah explained. "Here, come with me. I think there's some animals here you've yet to meet!" With that the trio followed Jeremiah further into the glen where they enjoyed the evening, staying until the last dance had been danced and the last song sung. Then they parted from their friends and returned to the Castle and the President's House by the light of the full moon.
